(1863- 1937)
Marguerite Marie Donquichotte was born in a poor family in the country and lost her mother when she was 3 and a half. Feeling desperate, his father became an alcoholic and abandoned his two young daughters who were sheltered in the hospice in Bourges. After difficult teenage years, working as a servant on a farm, the young woman went up to Paris and found employment in a dress-making factory. During this training period, she took care of her sister’s daughter. Marguerite, who now was working-class, became quite famous and opened her own workshop. She changed her name to d’ Audoux. At the same time, Marguerite Audoux visited book circles and met Léon-Paul Fargue and Charles-Louis Philippe. Her reputation came with Marie-Claire, her first novel which was published in 1910 and with which she obtained the “Prix Femina”. More novels followed but they were not as successful. Marguerite Audoux retired in Saint -Raphaël.
