Charles VII , « Little king of Bourges », was declared king on 30th October 1422, in his chateau in Mehun-sur- Yèvre, after having inherited the Duchy from his elder brother. In the middle of the 100 years’ war, Charles VII settled in the luxurious chateau of Duke Jean de Berry. In Berry, Charles VII lived between Mehun-sur-Yèvre and Bourges where he hosted Joan of Arc. Several of his captains came from Berry, as well as his “Argentier” (treasurer) Jacques Coeur whom he abandoned during his trial. Charles VII died in his château in Mehun when he was 58.
