For several years, Bourges has had a policy to preserve and value its rich green heritage.
There are 2 large historic gardens: the « Archevêché » (the archbishop) and the « Prés-Fichaux ».
The «Archevêché» is near the cathedral and its flowerbeds and paths originated in the 17th century and were redesigned in about 1730. In a grove, there is a music stand and a playground.
The «Prés-Fichaux» gardens originated in 1930 and are characteristics of the Art Déco style with a theatre of greenery, sculptures and the detailed trimmed bushes.
But the swamps are the green lung in Bourges; they gained ground over the rivers, the Yèvre and the Voiselle. Two steps from the centre of town, they form a green belt of nearly 135 ha and consist of colourful gardens and multiple canals that flow through. The change of scenery is guaranteed.
