FISHING AND WATERWAYS

It is possible to fish in about all the stretches of water in the department; and there are also many other dedicated sites as there are a lot of rivers and small ponds with fish in some natural regions.

As for the fishing associations, they are all regrouped under the “Fédération départementale du Cher” (Cher National Association), which gathers 61 associations registered for fishing and protecting the environment (Associations Agréées pour la Pêche et la Protection du Milieu Aquatique - A.A.P.P.M.A):

National waterways: 240 km of rivers and 95 ha of ponds
Non-national waterways: 290 km of rivers and 431 ha of ponds

Among the most common species in the rivers and the 5000 ponds in the department, there is the bleak, the gudjeon, the carp, the pike, the walleye the roach and the bass.
Trout is very common in the north and the south of the department.
Besides, fishermen can fly-fish in the pond at La Noue, near Vouzeron.

On the hydrographical map of the department, you can also find the ranking of the ponds and lakes by category. You can have access to the regulation by contacting the Fédération.
